I’ve owned a computer for the last 5 years, and I know how to do basic things just to get by, but in terms of general hardware and software know-how, I need major help!!!! Do you have any suggestions on where I can get some advice/training on computer fundamentals…hardware info that is not difficult to understand- hopefully in a visual format or with a live instructor…and eventually more advanced software programs?
Any input would be greatly appreciated!

With all due respect there are WAY too many computer school out there.
No wonder why the Information Technology field is overwhelmed, it is because of many NON-accerdited computer school that push out students into the work force with no help in getting into the field other than sending out resumes which the student can do him/herself.
For the very best background education, that’s entirely free, go to ‘Security Now’ podcasts with Steve Gibson & Leo Laporte.
These are 1hr. ’sit down’ chats, that cover current issues, the how & why, with remedies for security issues, related to internet, networking, etc.
You’ll need to start with the early ‘casts because these are computer functions & basics, and occasionally it gets a bit tekky, but Steve & Leo do it in real easy to understand chat format, that makes it painless, fun, & interesting (if you like the tech stuff to start with).
College level education, free.

This would be for a new program for a program not usually available in the classroom setting. I have posted ads, and gotten some calls but no one has enrolled, they all seem positive but they dont follow through. I dont want to be pushy and call everyday like a collector! What other suggestions do you all have?
I would make up some flyers and personally distribute them at the public library. Most library’s have computers/terminals and internet equipped now and full of people with spare time that are not very computer savvy. If they were, they would probably be home glued to a pc.
Greet them in person and try to be charismatic, understanding and patient. They may come to associate those qualities with the program. Make them comfortable with you and the will feel like the can be comfortable enough to learn and benefit from the program. Just a thought….
Would Microsoft Netmeeting be the best thing to use? I want something that I can setup on my end, and my customer can login on their end and see me my mouse clicking and moving around on the screen. They will obviously need to have a speaker phone in order to hear me talking. Also, at the end of each lesson I want to somehow switch things around so I can see their mouse clicking and moving around on the screen.
That will allow me to quiz them and ensure they are doing the steps correctly.
Netmeeting will permit you to accomplish what you want. You just need to enable desktop sharing. When you want to be the ‘instructor’, you will share your desktop with the student. When you want to watch what the student does, you will need to let the student enable desktop sharing. Just be aware that bandwidth is a critical consideration… both of you should be on broadband (DSL or cable modem) and should have similar configuration.
If your student does not have the same software on his/her computer, and will be executing the actual mouseclicks and data entry on your computer, you will need to grant them control of your screen through Netmeeting.
I hope this is helpful information. I can help you through the settings, if required.

Dear Parents/Guardians,
We are organising a computer course for parents on the………of………..in our school, starting at…..in the….classroom.
This course is to show parents the type of coursework and homework that their children undertake on a regular basis. It is also to advise any parents in the basic use of computers eg emails and Internet use.
If there are parents who would like to pass on their knowledge in this session, please also come to the course as 1:1 work would be of great benefit.
* I have done similar things. The second part is because (in my case) one of my parents was THE Computing Officer for one of the most prestigious Universities in the world…use that knowledge…the parents probably prefer it to teachers !
Have a feel of Hyderabad before starting computer training centre at Hyderabad. Most of the computer training centres are at Ameerpet, Kukatpally and Banjarahills.
There are so many residential colonies in Hyderabad. Choose one place very near to educational institutes and Residential colonies so that there will be contnuous business. Moreover Your coaching must be excellent when compared to the exisiting established institutes.
All the Best…..
