I am in second year, studing computers at a good engg. college.
Is it possible to get some kind of computer training from some IT company (like they provide when they take freshers), and side by side continue college. I dont want any salary, just experience.
I have ZERO experience….I know a little bit of C/C++. And while toying with it I made a small pinball game. (just the basic mechanism)
Please suggest some ways of getting practical experience in programming.
I learned most of my programming from school and books. If you want real world experience, then apply for internships. They could be paid or unpaid. The better ones will pay you though.
It seems like you are REALLY new to programming though, so I’m not sure how much you will learn on the job. But even if you just learn a little, the experience is a plus on your resume. If a company does give you training, it will be just like taking a college course but 10 times faster.
Anyways, bottom line, the best way to go is to get an internship. It helps your resume, your networking, and your experience.
Sure it’s possible. You should speak to your college counselor. Most colleges have a seperate counselor for each department. Find out who they are, and speak with them. They can usually help you find decent entry level jobs.

if you show them that when you apply at a job, maybe they will allow you to get in. normally they won’t take anyone without IT skills. your pinball game will help you trying get a job.
